Biomedical Applications

Nowadays engineered nanoparticles surround us, leading to many and highly valuable applications in different domains of biomedical sciences. Thanks to their unique properties they are revolutionizing and pushing up varied research areas including detection and diagnosis, molecular imaging, drug delivery, tissue engineering, and targeted therapies.

The use of nanotechnology for healthcare includes diagnostic and therapy. In our lab we design theranostic nanoparticles, which include detection, diagnostic and therapy in the same nanostructure, making possible to evaluate the effect of therapy. We use theranostic nanomaterials (metallic NPs and lanthanide-doped NPs) for detection, imaging, drug delivery, photodynamic and photothermal therapy of breast and skin cancer.
